Before I started my telemedicine practice...
A family friend called to ask me for advice because she felt ill and couldn't get off work in time to make it to her doctor's office.
I gave her my recommendations, then afterward, she cash-apped me $25 .
That was the first time I got paid outside of my employer for my expertise, and I will never forget that initial feeling of satisfaction, accomplishment, and gratitude.
In the grand scheme, $25 is not much, but the principle that I can get paid for giving recommendations to people outside work is priceless.
Because we worked hard for our degrees, we sacrificed time away from our families, we took courses and workshops to stay abreast of new evidence-based recommendations, and we do these because we desire to help patients.
But after this experience, I realized it's okay to get compensation for our desire to help patients.
And I did that by starting my telemedicine practice part-time while still working full-time.
But before you say you can't practice while working your full-time job.
Let me remind you that it only takes 1-2 hours a day to run this simple telemedicine practice.
So, even with your current job, you can still add extra income to your pocket and get compensated properly for your desire to help patients.
